Kwabena Opuni Speaks about National Cathedral

Immediate past General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong says government will not pay for the yet-to-be-built National Cathedral.

Speaking on Asempa FM‘s Ekosii Sen show on Monday, Dr kwabena Opuni said President Akufo-Addo will only facilitate the acquisition of land for the project but will not finance it as is being speculated in the public domain.

Kwabena Opuni revealed that churches will contribute towards the putting up of the National Cathedral.

“No one has the id government is building Cathedral for Christians. Nana Addo called the top pastors saying this is what he wants and he will facilitate the provision of land.

No one has said he is building for the church. We should understand this well. The church will look for the money to build the church. He only said he will like it. He made the proposal…” he said.

President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the start of construction of the National Cathedral on March 6, hours before he headed to the Black Star Square for Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary ceremony.

The project is one of the many legacy projects of the country’s 60th Anniversary Committee.
