But raging religious leaders have come out to condemn the spectacle, seen in a YouTube video made at Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering church two Sundays ago.
In the video, he claims the wind was indeed a glimpse into God’s glory.
Mzansi pastors told Daily Sun this is a disgrace.
Pastor Manzini Mhlungu (75) of the Holy Zion in Mpumalanga told Daily Sun you can’t call on the Holy Spirit to appear like a cow for everybody to see.
“I can only agree if a person tells me they felt the Holy Spirit. A person can feel the Lord’s presence when they’ve prayed hard,” he said.
He said the Bible warns against things that will happen when the end is near.
“It scares me to learn that they’re happening now while I’m still alive,” he said.
Bishop Manqoba Sithole said government should stop pastors from playing people.
“I don’t know what that thing is, but it’s definitely not the Holy Spirit or God,” he said.
He said people don’t read, and lack of knowledge is dangerous because people believe anything anyone tells them.
Council of African Independent Churches’ Bishop Thami Ngcana told Daily Sun the Bible says pastors will instruct the mountains to move and they will. But the Bible warns that they won’t be authentic pastors.
“They won’t see the Kingdom of God,” he said.
Mpiyakhe Mkholo of the CRL Commission said if churches were regulated, they will be stopped from misleading people.
Ephraim Nyondo, a spokesman for Bushiri’s church, said the church witnessed the appearance in the form of wind and fire (Whirlwind).
“Our biblical understanding of the Holy Spirit is that He may appear in the form of a dove or wind, but He is not those things.”
