Gospel Artistes Don’t Have To Be Boring – IBK

Spread The Love

Gospel singer, Blessing Akintunde, aka IBK, is of the opinion that gospel artistes and songs don’t have to be boring.

Advising gospel artistes to upgrade their skills, the Iyanu singer told Sunday Scoop, “A lot of gospel artistes need to work more on their craft so they are not seen as being boring. There are different sounds they can try their hands on, not just the regular worship. If everybody is doing the same thing, it tends to put some people off after a while. As an artiste, one has to understand one’s sound and be aware of how it can blend into different genres of music.”

The singer also stated that she had learnt many lessons in the course of her sojourn in the gospel music industry. She said, “There are lots of lessons to learn. Tim Godfrey is one person that is hard-working, disciplined and committed to what he does. That has helped me. While I was with him, I was not only the music director, I also helped in planning the concert, Fearless. I remember the first edition we had; we were just three that planned the concert. That really pushed me to be able to do more than just singing. He (Godfrey) has pushed me to understand the industry.”

Reminiscing on her musical journey, the talented vocalist said, “It has been an interesting journey. For a long time, a lot of people did not know I was an independent artiste. I think it was majorly because I was always singing with (Tim Godfrey’s) Xtreme Crew. They thought I was (just) a back-up artiste. Those were the things that informed my transition to being an independent artiste.”.
